Chapter 12 ~ The Movies

December 1998
We're going to the movies tonight. Me, Ike, Tay, Zac, and Ashley. I don't know what we're going to see, but that really doesn't matter. I'm really falling in love with Zac, I want to be with him every second. Ashley is really excited about tonight, I'm going to try to get her and Taylor together. I love it here, I have got to be the luckiest person in the world. I met Zac's girlfriend this morning. She's not really his girlfriend, well, not anymore at least. Wow, I can't wait 'til tonight!

"What time are we leaving?" Ike asked, stepping out of the bathroom with just a towel wrapped around his waist. He walked over to the dresser, searching for some clothes.

Taylor layed his book down and sat up. "I don't know. I don't even know what movie we're gonna see."

"Can I tell you something?" Ike pulled a pair of pants out of the drawer and walked over to the closet. Zac walked up to the door just in time to hear him say that to Taylor. He knew if he walked in now, Ike probably wouldn't say anything. So he stood outside listening to them.

"Sure, what is it?" Tay stared at Isaac with a questioning look.

"This morning, I walked in Kirstie's room, to offer her a pop tart. And I found her laying on the bed, with Zac, and they were kissing." He turned to face Tay, waiting for him to say something.

"Well, don't worry about it. There's nothing wrong with that, right?"

"Come on Taylor, you know how much younger Zac is then her. It's just not right." He pulled a shirt out of the closet and walked back over to another drawer.

"Yeah, I know. But just forget about it, it's nothing, unless, it keeps happening." Tay layed back down and picked his book up again.

Outside the room, Zac decided he didn't want them to keep talking, he didn't want to hear anymore. "What are you doing?" He said to Ike as he stepped in the room.

"All my socks are dirty, or gone. Can I have a pair of yours?" He replied, tossing the pants and socks on a chair as he pulled the shirt over his head.

"Yeah, I guess so. We're gonna pick Ashley up at 5 if that's okay." Zac said.

"That's fine. But what movie are we gonna see?"

"I thought we could see what's playing when we get there, and if whatever we wanna see doesn't start for a while, we could go get something to eat."

"Okay." Isaac picked up the socks and unfolded them. "These have a hole in them. Hey Tay, reach up there in the drawer and throw me another pair."

Not looking up from his book, Tay reached up and into the drawer, feeling around. A grin spread across his face as he looked at Zac. Zac frowned and ran over to Tay but it was too late. Tay shot up and dodged Zac heading for the door. "I found it!" Tay yelled, holding up Zac's journal.

"Give it back now!" Zac shouted chasing Taylor out of the room and down the stairs.

Ike groaned and got up. "Guess I'll get them myself." He mumbled to himself.

"Now... which house is it?" Ike asked, driving slowly down the road.

"I'm pretty sure it's that one right there." Kirstie pointed to a house across the street, and Ike made a quick turn before passing it up. "Will you go to the door with me Tay?"

"Sure." Tay answered. Kirstie got out of front passenger side of the car. Tay opened the door and got out of the back following her up the driveway.

She looked back and smiled at Taylor. "You two would make a really cute couple."

"Oh, I know what you're trying to do." He said, catching up to her and poking her in the side.

"Well, she likes you." She pokes him back and laughs.

"But she doesn't even know me. I mean, you know, she doesn't really know me." Tay got that 'mind-wandering' look on his face and Kirstie poked him again.

"Whatcha thinking about?" She asked.

"Oh, just stuff." He answered, stepping up to the door. Just as he reached for the doorbell the door opened. "Hi." Tay said, to the girl standing in front of them.

Ashley's mouth dropped opened, and she expected to scream but nothing came out. She tried to say hi, but that wouldn't come out either. Wow, it's really him. Taylor Hanson is standing in front of me. She wanted to scream and jump and hug him, but didn't want to look like an idiot. When he reached out his hand, she shook it, and finally managed to get a soft, quiet, "Hi."

"So I guess you're Ashley." Taylor smiled at her.

"Uh, um, uh-huh." She smiled back, a little embarassed by her inability to speak to him.

"Well, lets go guys." Kirstie said, turning around and heading back toward the car.

Taylor sat up front with Ike, and Kirstie, Ashley, and Zac, stuffed themselves in the back together. They all talked the whole way to the movies, and Ashley finally began to talk to Taylor. They reached the movie theatre at 6pm, and it had begun to rain outside.

"Alright, what are we going to see?" Zac asked, taking Kirstie's hand as he walked inside. She looked at him suprizingly when he took her hand, not wanting Ike or Tay to see. But he just grinned and looked at their choices.

"What do you want to see Ashley?" Taylor turned to her, looking into her eyes. They stared at each other for a moment before she answered.

"Oh it doesn't matter to me. Whatever you want to see is fine." She said.

After ten minutes of trying to pick what to see, they agreed on 'What Does It Take?' A comedy about two people who have feelings for each other, but both are afraid of rejection. It was very crowded and their wasn't enough seats for them to sit together. Taylor and Ashley got two seats beside each other, thanks to Kirstie trying to get them together. But Zac wasn't too happy about it. He was between Ike and Kirstie, in front of Tay and Ashley.

"Well, Ike, how about you go get us some candy?" Zac said, about 20 minutes through the movie. He kept looking at Kirstie, blowing kisses to her when Ike wasn't looking.

Isaac just looked blankly at him for a minute. "I need to talk to you about something when we get home." He said glancing at Kirstie and then back to Zac. "You can go get us some candy." He handed him some money and told him some things to get.

After about five minutes Ike turned to Kirstie. "So have you heard anything Tay and Ashley have been saying?" He said as he leaned towards her.

"Nope. They've been whispering the whole time, but they're too quiet, I can't understand a thing." She said. They both looked behind them.

"Looks like they're getting along pretty well." Ike said. Ashley and Taylor were talking, smiling at each other, and holding hands.

"Well, that's great." She said. "I'm happy for them." She smiled and turned back around.

"Are you?" Ike questioned her.

"Well of course I am." She answered, giving him a funny look.

"If you say so." He said, looking back at the movie screen.

Kirstie kept staring at him, and grabbed his arm, turning him back toward her. "Now what in the world is that suppose to mean?" Ike just shrugged his shoulders and grinned. "Well, whatever." She finally smiled back. "Zac's been gone a while. I'm gonna go look for him."

She got up and walked down the isle to the lobby. Looking around she spotted Zac. He was in the corner, close to the conssetion stand, and someone was standing in front of him. As she got closer to see who it was, she realized it was Missy. She watched them for a minute, watched Missy run her hand through Zac's hair. She felt tears fill her eyes, but tried to keep them from falling. Then she saw what she hoped wasn't going to happen. They kissed. Missy had leaned towards Zac, put her arms around him, and Zac put his hands on her chest. Her tears began to fall and Zac turned and saw her...

"Kirstie! Wait!" He shouted, as he watched her run into the women's bathroom.

I knew this was just too good to be true, she thought. She wipped her tears with tissue, but they kept coming. I was in love with the sweetest guy in the world, and I thought he loved me. I could never be happier. Now this. Millions of thoughts ran through her head. She kept thinking of how much she loved him. And in her mind she kept seeing them kiss. "What am I going to do?" She whispered out loud.
